Hill Farm in Steventon is underwater, Brookes Student Union isn't. So it is that Saturday afternoon sees Stornoway expressing their relief at avoiding the smell of cows in the barn and starting off the weekend with an amusing and energetic set. It's not Truck, of course (that'll be going ahead in September - all tickets still valid), but the spirit of Truck was everywhere - perhaps most of all in KTB's singalong on the small stage. Music alternated between the front and back of the venue, and as it combined acts from different stages the result was a very eclectic mixture. Piney Gir and Cat Martino entranced everyone, and to finish on the main stage the Brian Jonestown Massacre played to a rapturous reception, quickly switching into DJ Fresh's beats to end the night.
It's amazing that this could be organised at such short notice and go so smoothly, a testament to the determination of Truckers. Between the spontaneity and the quantity of good music this was also the best event I've ever been to at Brookes. Sunday looks like being even better - Danny Wilson of Grand Drive fame couldn't be fitted in last night, so he's been added to the bill. al (Unverified), 22/07/07 Provisional lineup for Sunday (4pm-12pm) TRUCK STAGE Garth & Maud Hudson Danny & the champions of the world Goldrush Electric Soft Parade Silent League Jim Protector Epstein The Tambourines TRAILERBARN MARKETLOUNGE lounge djs George Pringle The People's Revolutionary Choir Luke Smith Co-pilgrim Oxygen Ponies Y exocoetidus (DI User), 22/07/07 |
