As a fan of the musical version of Blood Brothers, I was intrigued to see if a student group could do the original work of the playwright, Willy Russell, true justice.
The talented group of performers ensured that the comedy ran at a high level in order to contrast with the moments of high tension and the tragic ending, overall giving the final scene an even more shocking impact.
The lesser-known ending, different to the musical, was highly effective in achieving ultimate emotion from the audience. I noted that many audience members were moved even to tears, demonstrating that the student performers clearly grasped the deeper motivations of the play and had worked hard to create believable and genuine characters.
The all-student cast and crew, under the direction of their fellow student Charlie Parker, were truly daring in putting on this brave choice of production – and I am certain when I say that success was achieved at a professional standard!
