With big feel-good bass, tight drum lines and beat-matching video, Response Collective’s live set’s like finding a surprise birthday party in your living room, passing out and waking up inside a music video.
Set against charismatic guitars and keyboard with dancing lead by the Collective’s resident (fully suited) astronaut, the videos feature the band’s adventures in the hinterland of modern electronica and various lay-bys somewhere along the M40. This should make RC a date for your diary just for the comedy value alone. These days they’re giving away DJ tips on the back of cereal packets and it’s hard to find one who actually adds something to a band. Turntablist The Fireproof Scratch Duck somehow does exactly that with a scrapbook of classic rock cuts and some truly floor filling beats. Cutting up records is so easy to do badly it’s a breath of fresh air to hear someone do it right; blending the best bits of good records while cutting the crud from the medioca ones to get to that one riff that originally made it a hit. And not a hoodied gangsta or miserable emo kid in sight. More of that! Richard K (Unverified), 24/01/09 |
