Despite loathing Angelina 'I-steal-husbands-when-not-saving-the-world' Jolie, I have to admit this was quite a good spy thriller of the "are they good, are they bad?" variety. Jolie is Evelyn Salt, who could or could not be a Russian spy, and that is the plot - how she reveals her identity and punches for the good guys or the bad. There are some nice switches - Liev Schrieber is solid as usual as another CIA operative - and there's not too much else to say except that the main sticking point was the stunts. I know this is Hollywood but it just didn't work to have a tiny 7 stone Hollywood actress, who was meant to believably take down 15-17 stone men, jump off trains, throw herself onto the tops of speeding lorries, without a single limp or break of speed. With zero muscle, well, just how was she meant to survive crushing falls which would have stopped a rhinocerous? Come on, even Jason Bourne hurt his leg once when doing some particularly evil challenge. If this really was Tom Cruise's original film and he pulled, then the scriptwriters should have their knuckles rapped for not toning down the alleged physical prowess of the female lead. roz (Unverified), 26/09/10 An enjoyable Bond-like spy/action romp with a good pace and the occasional twist to maintain your attention.
