With Ken Loach you can usually predict the unpredictable. This is a wee gem of a movie. Don't be put off like I was initially by the Trainspotting-like promo. For the first 40 mins it's business as usual: gritty realism from Glasgow's underbelly which we've all seen probably a bit too much of in recent years. Then the film turns on its head...and has you laughing out loud. On boarding a minibus full of nuns, one of the actors is heard to say " f.... sake, a bunch of nuns", and his colleague replies "sorry about that ladies - there's nothing we can do with these Protestants"...and so on. If you like the style of Bill Forsyth's movies Gregory's Girl or Local Hero then this film is for you. Moviemoghul (Unverified), 27/06/12 |
