Join us for an evening with the composer Robert Saxton, as he discusses his lifetime achievements in music.
Robert Saxton will be interviewed by his fellow composer, Thomas Hyde, at the historic Corpus Christi College at the University of Oxford.
Professor Robert Saxton (MA [Cantab], BMus, DMus [Oxon] and FGSM) is currently professor of composition and a tutorial fellow in music at Worcester College at the University of Oxford. He has studied with Elisabeth Lutyens, Robin Holloway, Robert Sherlaw Johnson and Luciano Berio, following guidance from Benjamin Britten. Robert Saxton has written major works for the BBC (TV, Proms and radio), London Symphony Orchestra and the London Sinfonietta. Festivals including Huddersfield, Three Choirs and Cheltenham, and soloists including Teresa Cahill, Steven Isserlis and Mstislav Rostropovich.
Recent commissions include a song cycle for baritone Roderick Williams at Oxford Lieder Festival, and a piano cycle for pianist Clare Hammond at the City of London Festival.
Thomas Hyde studied with Robert Saxton in 2003. He was awarded a doctorate in composition. In 2008, Thomas Hyde became lecturer in music at Worcester College at the University of Oxford. In 2009, he took up a visiting lectureship in composition at City University London.
