Visited once whilst a party was celebrating a birthday meaning space was limited. Rare sight of Asahi beer on tap was interesting but thing that stuck in mind was the shambolic unisex toilets. I don't know if this was some sort of stop-gap measure, but they were the worst toilets in any bar in Oxford! This is a minor point but as a bloke I usually find myself putting on diving gear to tread through the usually wet floors of such places, and this feature really stuck in the mind sadly.

Great place to eat, drink and stay. Always a warm welcome, the food is very good - well presented, tasty and reasonably priced, with a good variety for all tastes. Bar is excellent like a locals pub without the annoying 'in bred' locals. Great variety of draught lagers and good selection of spirits without the high price tags. Bandit (Unverified), 30/05/06
An easy commute to London from here! I stayed for 10 days during October 2005 and could not have been happier. The proprietor, Pete, is a fantastic host, the locals are very welcoming and the accommodation is very comfortable. I ended up in Oxford accidentally, driving from London, and finding Pete at The Old Black Horse was the best thing that happened to my itinerary. This is a great location to use as a base to explore the Cotswolds, Bath, Gloucester, Bristol, Stratford and other places. If you want to understand how generous Pete and the locals can be, let me explain! I chucked my plan to return to London pre-departure, returned to The Old Black Horse and "the boys" organised for my rental car to be cleaned and returned to local hiring location, sorted me with the bus to Heathrow (90 minutes) and it was a real relief. They also put me onto the local international shipping company to pack and send my excess luggage. You can't do better than this for hospitality. JB, Sydney (Australia) (Unverified), 07/02/06 |
