Lots of advice for the non spicy people out there! They still do fish and chips if you bring your 87 year old father! Stumbled into what I thought was a cheap pub bar foody place and came out richer in authenticy than I had anticipated. Would definitely recommend it and go back. Highly attentive and friendly service. blobby (Unverified), 22/04/12 One of the best- amaxing food and friendly service, just what Kidlington needed. We went quite late on Saturday evening. It was very busy but we were welcomed and seated promptly. Drinks served straightaway, papadoms and a great spice rack. Must visit once and you will be hooked into its aromatic fresh food. Lamb sekuwa, chicken chilli, piro king prawn, makhmali tikka, Himalayan lamb, chicken kali mirch, red snapper, lemon rice, leek and mushroom rice, all were delicious! foodlover (Unverified), 27/03/12 Went there on second day of being open. Excellent and different! A proper restaurant with huge choice of unheard of dishes. The lamb chops as a starter followed by the tender slow cooked velvety lamb curry with their special potato and onion side dish were all superb. ( Yes, there is a lot more than lamb on the menu, as well as a good veggie selection). Also tried some kind of jack fruit dish which was sharp, sweet and savoury and very very delicious. The spices and flavours tantalise your tongue and really take your taste buds for a workout. Good portions, nothing greasy, good prices - including for wine - and all smartly served on crisp white cloths in a nice environment. (Am I really saying this about The Squire Bassett?!) The Nepalese staff are lovely. We wish them the success they deserve if they keep up this excellent standard. Well done - Kidlington needed it. We will be back again and again. Fussy Foodie (Unverified), 10/02/12 We tried this after getting a leaflet through the door. The food was excellent. I've been searching for somewhere in Kidlington that serves food as good as this for some time. It was full of flavour and spices. The service was very good and we were made to feel very welcome. I've been put off other restaurants in Kidlington where the staff treat you as if they are doing you a favour and not as a paying customer. When we arrived the place was almost full so I was glad we'd booked. It was really nice to drink in a Bar, after all it was traditional British pub as well There were four of us who had starters, main courses with sides and drinks in the Bar and the price was reasonable. MoMO starter, Lamb Sekuwa and Lamb chops starter were really tasty. I would recommend the Gurkha Special Mis Max Karai a main course. It was the first time I've tried them and they were great. I tasted Sangrila Chicken it was fantasctic . The salmon curry was good as well. Really pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. Expected something similar to normal curry house, but many of the dishes were unusual/ unique. Even the momos - which I had eaten hundreds of times in India (cooked by Nepalis) - were really tasty, and better than any I'd had before. Ask the waiters for advice on what they recommend.... We will all definitely be going back Chops (Unverified), 08/02/12 One of our friends went to have the opening day buffet and they recommended it to us. So we went there on Saturday evening, the staff were very welcoming on arrival, sat us on table immediately, since it's a new restaurant it wasn't that busy but after while quite a few people arrived. It was almost full in one side of the restaurant. We ordered lamb adua chops and bara as starter and chicken hariyali and gurkhali lamb for main along with surprising jackfruit curry. Starter arrived on time and they were absolutely delicious, different from other Indian restaurants. Though main took a while to come, they were worth waiting very fresh taste and the jackfruit was fantastic. Never had jack fruit as curry before. i'd definitely go back. 05/02/12 Please fill in the boxes and then click "Send Review" to submit your review for Gurkha Village Nepalese Restaurant. | |
