The du Pre Music Building has excellent acoustics, a new Steinway concert grand piano, and a good ambience. The downside is the expensive event insurance the hirer has to take out, typically £150 for a single event depending on the insurance company. Other venues, for instance the Sheldonian, do not require this and have their own cover which is not charged to the hirer. This is a real disincentive for hirers who should be aware of this when making a booking.
