We live right on Cowley Road, frequent Meli almost on daily basis. Sometimes for lunch or dinner. Sometimes just for coffee and snack. The little shop is very child friendly. Lovely shop owners. Highly recommend the daily soup, often vegetarian and very substantial nonetheless. Very reasonable pricing.
Sophia (Unverified), 20/03/11 Meli deli is hands down ... my best. Meli brunch on Sunday is a sacred ritual. Start with a lovely cup of Caramel Latte that is like a airy-fairy cake in a cup that never fails to drown out the troubles of the last week in tasty gulps. Then, with a nod and a wink, order "breakfast" ... the one that isn't on the menu. Reza and Agnes who indulge us rotten will not be pleased that the secret is out. But let's be real. it's too good not to try at least once. It's an in-house specialty that has no name and no set recipe. The first time we ordered the "breakfast", it was two perfectly fried eggs heaped lavishly with a sauté of sun-dried tomatoes, and veggies, seasoned with awesomeness. Today's "breakfast"? if scrambled egg can be juicy, it was today. a medley of eggs, onions and a few other things I can never quite put my finger on, all plated up with a tomato and lettuce salad, hummus and toasted pita. delish. And then there was that time I had the Orange JUICE cake. Yup orange juice. I had to try it. it had just come out of the oven, and the smell was just too much to resist (this is after having just consumed the "breakfast" of course). My God, it was good. So anyways, the point is that they always have an awesome selection of bakalva, sweets and cakes. And then there's the groceries. Err, have you tried their green olives stuffed with Brazil nuts? Do you know that you can die from consuming too many Brazil nuts? That's a serious health warning because you will want to consume that much. And then there's all the lovely Greek-y things you can buy like tzatziki, hummus, greek yogurt (try the cherry yogurt. my god), olives, feta, and haloumi, and other super duper meli deli thingys. A week that doesn't involve a meet-and-greet (or rather a sit-and-eat sessh) at Meli is like an endless Oxford winter. Do yourself a favor and go get some meli!!! Health warning: don't be surprised if you lose your sense of time while at Meli. many a studious and conscientious have been known to faff while at the meli deli. SeismicActivity (Unverified), 11/09/10 If you are in search of a great cup of coffee, try their Cafe Misto, which is just black coffee with a bit of milk - it 'tastes' of coffee. The food is excellent as well. Will be back. Flower (DI User), 22/08/10 This is my favourite place to sit and watch the world go by, lovely coffee, whichever one I choose. Not eaten there yet but I imagine I will be doing so soon, the food looks too nice not to try. Staff always very friendly too. GeneralD (DI User), 21/08/10 The best moussaka I have ever tasted! Hungry Joe (DI User), 21/06/10 Meli is LOVELY. Greek food at its' finest. For those who like a bit of culture and quality. red (Unverified), 25/05/10 This place has a very nice brunch!! Two delicious veggie omelettes. They aren't on the menu, but ask for them. Delicious!!! MA (DI User), 27/02/10 This place is a hidden gem in Oxford!! It's recently remodeled and has much more space to eat in. It's also open from 8AM-9PM, which is very long hours for Cowley Road! I haven't tried their coffee, but their food is excellent. I love their vegetarian lunch takeaway meals - they make fresh dishes like broad beans, Indian veg, and other yummy things and put whatever you want together for you. They also have delish fresh baklava. The look of the place is now also very cool - I'd now meet a friend there for lunch and not only do takeaway. Worth a try! Baklava fan (DI User), 03/02/10 Wonderful baklava, lovely salads and hot foods. P (DI User), 29/03/09 I love this place! The sweet potato mash stuff they make with homous in a pitta is just out of this world! 25/02/09 Fantastic place, what can I say that hasn't being said already?? My sister & I decided to try this place based on the reviews here for a quick takeaway lunch today (Thursday). Great hot food & you can mix it if you can't make up your mind. I had spicy chicken with organic squash & a chikpea dish, both delicious, my sis a duck dish & chickpea dish, she said it was really tasty. I came out with a tub of houmous & some pittas to have tonight & some of the loveliest bakklava I've had, bar none. I can't wait to go & have a proper browse when I'm not in a lunchtime hurry! It's a tiny place that has an amazing array of hot & cold food available, lovely friendly staff & a table or two so you can eat there if you just can't wait to tuck in!! I just thought that this gem of a place deserved a more up to date review. 10/10 in every department, MCRedd (DI User), 20/08/08 This place is great. They've even got some stools and a bench installed now so you can sit and eat their delicious salads, fresh cakes, moussaka etc. whilst people-watching on the Cowley Road. A big tub of fresh houmous is cheaper than it is in Tesco and infinitely nicer; you can even buy your pitta breads and a tub of it in there, and they'll heat up your pittas for dipping. The sun dried tomato rolls are amazing, if the most filling thing you'll ever eat; fresh coffee is available to wash down the irresistible honey sponge cake. The Greek salad is proper. Need I say more. Roo (DI Reviewer), 15/05/07 Please go here. The food is consistently wonderful, fresh, healthy, and inexpensive, and the owners are very friendly and helpful. There is always a selection of hot and cold items to take away for lunch, as well as deli items like feta, bread, good olives, dips, etc. I suggest the savoury pies (aubergine and feta, butternut squash, lamb) and sweets (good baklava) for a small but filling lunch, but if you come in on a day when they've made a batch of artichoke salad, you're in luck.
