Georgina's was once so good, and I'm not sure exactly what has happened! I used to love the place, with its old music posters, healthy menu, massive salads, and tasty coffee. The last couple of times I've been, though, it's not been great.

I had a wrap that was served with tinned chili (complete with its canning fluid and tinned potatoes). A friend asked for her scrambled eggs and bagel to be served separately - I'm not sure where the problem lay but the staff refused to do this (we only serve the eggs ON the bagel, they declared). On a more positive note, the salads that day (we split a mix of them) were fine, and the waitress did warn us in advance that one of them contained bits of cooked bacon.

Finally - the plastic cups that the tap water is served in need a good wash - they're distinctly salmon-flavoured!

I wrote the review beginning of Feb. and thought I'd write again to say the lunch we had on Saturday just gone was really good. Still think the lattes could be a little larger and once again they were luke warm; however the grub was great. Best nachos I have had in recent memory, really really good. Potato skins were also a good portion and very tasty - recommend you have the extra bacon bits too which were plenty in portion size and very nice. Good line in cakes/slices too. I think I'm a convert - would recommend to others.

Had a spot of lunch here for the first time on Saturday and will probably go back again. Mind you this was about our third time of trying over the last couple of months because it can be so hard to get a seat - best go for later(er) lunch and arrive after 14:30.

Had a nice pannini and the missis a croque-monsieur ciabatta and both were good - accompanying green salad was in fact just lettuce; tad disapointing. Good lattes but served luke warm and could perhaps have been slightly larger - prices about the same as elsewhere in the Covered Market.

Clientelle seemed largely late teen/under-grad community but a friendly atmosphere all round. Nice enough but nothing that special - needs to make a bit more of an effort in my opinion but given how busy it was I imagine the management don't see an incentive to do so.

I love Georgina's. My friend and I wanted to find a little café for lunch one day in Oxford and now I feel guilty for not trying anywhere else, I am so converted. I always have the nachos, which I would say are the best nachos ever; I've had the veggie chilli option with mine before as well, and it wasn't spicy, but did taste good and I got a generous helping of everything (and it wasn't just me, a girl at the next table had them without chilli and she still had quite a lot to get through), including loads of tortilla chips with melted cheese and jalapenos. And there's salsa, guacamole and sour cream on the side and a small salad with a lovely dressing. It was £6.95 (or £5.95 without the veggie chilli - they offer a beef chilli as well though) and even with my friend helping, we didn't finish it. I am determined to one day! She had a hot chicken salad, which looked lovely as well and came with a nice side salad (but I didn't try it as I'm veggie). We had our meals to the cool sounds of Kings of Leon and in a really warm, homely atmosphere with their lovely big wooden tables. I definitely recommend it!!

Very disapointing! Served me old salad and my husband coudn't get onion and tomato from the unhelpful staff for his smoked salmon bagel.

Most students know that Georgina's is where the cool kids hang. You can lounge about in the cosy setting for relaxed lunches or a coffee, and part of the attraction is how popular it is, you may find yourself sharing your table with another couple. Food is pricey compared to other cafés, but their dishes can be more unique, with good homely quiches, warming Mexican food (fantastic nachos!), as well as the standard ciabattas and melts. The perfect student hang out.

Georgina's is a tiny (hence often full) café, and possibly the only upstairs establishment in Oxford's excellent and history-stuffed covered market. It plays cool music, the staff are trendy and attractive, the walls are plastered with old cinema (etc) posters and the daily papers are supplied for you to peruse with your latté. The food is good, on the wholesome side (apart from the usual suspects cake selection) and served on quirky wooden plates as if we were all back in the good old days of 19th century public schooling. You can peer out of the windows at a) the sky, b) the ladies decorating cakes and making marzipan frogs in the ground floor shop opposite, according to preference. However: either because the rent on the charming premises is extortionate, or because Georgina's can't actually fit many customers in it at any one time, the prices are a little high. Be that as it may, you can't beat Georgina's for Oxford ambience.
