Nice place. Truly huge sandwiches. Do have a look at the menus, which are most entertaining. Opening hours: 11am - 11pm Mon - Sat; 12 - 3pm & 7 - 10pm Sun . Food served: 12-2.15pm, 6.30-9pm, every day. Dogs allowed. Games: Cards, chess, backgammon, jenga (and a piano!).

This pub has been a fave of mine for many many years. The Gardeners is the best pub in Oxford - I miss it now i'm living in Warrington!

The Doorstep sandwiches are legendary. It is a lovely, traditional pub where you feel well looked after. The beer is really good, soft drinks are well chilled and the hot chocolate is quite special. You get good food at very reasonable prices and the bread and salad are always fresh, which is not always the case in some eating establishments. Probably one of the most authentic pub atmospheres in Oxford. It felt like stepping back in time and into someone's old sitting room. Pub was busy when I visited which added to the atmos. Didn't try food but even for a non-veggie like myself I was tempted. Will return even though a long way off my beaten track. 02/08/08 Best real ale I've ever had. Think it was called Old Minister (5.7% a bonus). Great quality vegan and veggie food and good size portions, nice beer garden, great atmosphere, well worth the walk to get there! 12/06/08 go try the sandwiches! they really are massive and delicious! good veggie options too and fantastic value. ooh and they do pudding as well, what more could you want?
