I simply cannot recommend this restaurant anymore then humanly possible. The food is second to none, cooked beautifully to perfection every single time, and if you have a vegetarian wife like me you will be more than satisfied with their vast selection for non meat eaters. But what makes this place superior to all other restaurants in Oxford is the service, I have been in person, and had many MANY deliveries and the service is forever friendly, helpful, polite and always attentive to your needs. They will gladly make recommendations to meet your personal tastes, and go out of their way to make your experience with them a happy one. Yes I am addicted to Jee Saheb, but I challenge anyone to not fall in love with this divine restaurant. 5*****++++++++!! Brian Adams - Littlemore (Unverified), 20/02/11 We've become very keen on this restaurant, which is sort of on the path between work and home, and worth the detour. The curries are really different from each other and the ingredients don't taste blended to bits. I'd really recommend Chot Poti to start, which is a chick pea mixture, with really delicious sauce (possibly including tamarind and I haven't worked out what else!) followed by either Chicken Handi Lazeez or Shah Jahan's Last Stew, both of which are on the Chef's recommendations list. Handi Lazeez is a virulently green concoction, which is fragrant to the point of making my mouth water even as I remember it. It's slightly citrusy and has coriander leaves and a really aromatic tang. Shah Jahan's Last Stew contains the most tender lamb I've ever had in curry, but really we order it just for the name. We've never eaten in, so I can't really commment on the service, but the staff all seem efficient and friendly when we pick up our takeaway. There's always a few minutes delay while it's fetched from the kitchen, but I've come to the conculsion it's because they only finish off the dishes when you're there. At any rate it's all still fresh, hot, crispy etc in the right places when we get it home. Our rating: the full 5* Jen is a Reviewer (DI Staff), 01/09/10 After much searching we have at last found a decent curry house. Very good, flavoursome curries and a great place to eat as well. I recommend a cheeky couple of pints in one of the two pubs in North Parade then dive in for a great curry. When you first look at them, they don't inspire, it has to be said, but once you taste them.....well, we go once a week now. 09/02/10 We've been getting takeaways about once a week or so from Jee Saheb for the last couple of years. In my view, it's a terrific curry house, and does the best Indian food in North Oxford. Excellent service and very good food. Dan (Unverified), 20/10/09 Just moved into the area, best Lamb Korai I've had in a long time. barney (DI User), 06/12/08 Just about adequate, but prices have risen and standards have dropped since the renaming and two unsuccessful makeovers of what used to be a charming place (where are the white elephants, and why was the cheap polystyrene ceiling not replaced?) A good location with easy parking, of course, OK if slightly too businesslike staff, clean setting, proper table cloths, nice beer, but too many culinary corners cut (bring back the proper marinades for tandoori meats). me too (Unverified), 19/10/08 I have been there with my son last week and the food was very good. We both enjoyed a good dinner and evening. I can recommend this restaurant. I can not speak on the prices, but I had the impression that they were higher than usually here in Germany. Thomas Fischnaller (Unverified), 27/08/08 Sorry, but posh location alone does not a great curry house make, and Oxford's curry houses are in fact mainly disappointing. Jee Saheb has a lot of promise but just doesn't deliver on taste. We had a simple chicken curry and rice; the rice was cold, boiled and stuck together - not very appealing - and the curry had no distinct aftertaste other than chilli. We did not try the desserts. Sadly it seems that when really authentic North Indian or Punjabi cuisine is promised, it's often not delivered, which is a real shame. Khalil (Unverified), 23/06/08 The food is very good. But not good enough to warrant the massive prive increase they have recently put into practice! A normal dish such as a chicken madras is now an unbelievable £7.95! Other places nearby are £3 or so cheaper. Other dishes and sundries are also more expensive than other establishments. There are also no free chutneys or popadoms thrown in and just to finalise my point, we recently got a takeaway for three and it was just under £40 and that was with the 10% discount! Anon (Unverified), 05/01/08 The above information is wrong: they only give 10% discount on takeaway purchases over £10, and you need to make sure that you ask the Jee Saheb staff for this, otherwise they may charge you the full in-house price. Beware also that it is significantly more expensive than it used to be. Georges C (Unverified), 09/12/07 Just got a take away. Tiny bit pricy (about £7.50 for one standard dish on pick up, no free popadoms). Reasonable taste. Very pleasant staff and efficient. bob (Unverified), 07/12/07 I have now been twice since the new management have taken over and have not been disappointed. The food was lovely and well presented, very reasonable prices and a lovely atmosphere. There were a number of families dining there as well. The staff are always pleasant and helpful on advising about dishes. We had a lovely evening and the restaurant and takeaway service was busy indicating that the bad press from the previous review isn't having an effect. I would recommend it. Helen (Unverified), 26/04/07 Now under new management, and trading under an instantly forgettable new name, Bagicha on North Parade is not the culinary treasure house which it was. Early on a Saturday evening the staff struggled to serve my party within seventy minutes of our arrival; our questions (one hour into our wait) about what was happening with our order were brushed off in a way which I thought was partly if not entirely sexist: as a woman, politely trying to attract the waiter's attention, I was completely ignored until my son called him over to speak to me. All around us others (of both sexes) were quietly complaining. Bizarrely, takeaway customers came and went while we in the restaurant sat and waited. The neighbouring table was still unserved a full ninety minutes after arrival. No apologies were proffered by the waiting staff. What a shame! This is a great loss to Oxford. I missed the charm and good manners of the previous owners. The food was all right when it eventually came, but the experience was spoiled by the gracelessness and inefficiency of the staff. The Hawk (DI Reviewer), 24/02/07 Love the food, but the rice was cold. Waiter Shumon was pleasant to speak to. The toilet was a mess. Harry (Unverified), 13/11/06 Bagicha, in my opinion, is one of the most amazing restaurants in Oxford - great hospitality, fantastic aroma, and last of all fabulous food. karen (Unverified), 06/11/06 One of the better Indian restaurants in North Oxford, Bagicha is situated in the quaint lane of North Parade. For a Tuesday night, the place was packed with people, and the atmosphere seemed suitable for all groups: families, couples, and business colleagues. It is open from 7-11pm every night including bank holidays, and has plenty of space to seat large groups of people, despite having low ceilings to make the room look deceptively intimate. The décor was pleasant, everywhere a clean white with pretty Indian stencil sketches on the walls. There was much to choose from on the menu, although, nothing new from the usual Indian cuisine, all priced reasonably at around £5/6. Having been to many curry houses in the city, I know what my favourite dish is - and as most people do - my companion and I chose our usual favourites, his being a chicken madras, and me, being of Asian decent and therefore having to prove my authenticity, chose a lamb vindaloo. To accompany the main dish we chose naan bread (£1.50) and pilau rice (£1.95). I was impressed by the spiciness of the vindaloo; I like curries which are nose-runningly hot! The price for two without drinks came to £17, which I thought was very reasonable and the service was extremely attentive. And to finish, we were spoilt with a hot towel and a minty chocolate. Since the main portions were filling, there was no need for dessert. Recommended, definitely.
