There is nowhere quite like the Rose. I have been coming here for years and adore the breakfasts and lunches. Such wide choices and all freshly made on the premises. The most delicious buttermilk pancakes with syrup for breakfast, if you don't fancy the organic cooked breakfast with lovely eggs and loads of toast and home made jam. Wonderful coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. Lunches range from freshly made sandwiches...so many fillings to choose from...to an ever changing lunch menu with warm chicken salad..home made fish cakes...I could go on forever. Always afraid The Rose will fade away one day and open as a chain...so make the most of it whilst you can. Valerie rose (Unverified), 03/11/12
I took a party of eight, mostly teenaged boys, out to tea at The Rose on Saturday, 27 June, 2009. The welcome was warm and the food delicious - nothing was too much trouble. The home-made scones were still warm, and prompted an interesting discussion about the merits of irregularly shaped foods.Second helpings were offered, but the Cream Tea Special was so special that none of us had room!

This is our favourite café in Oxford - for breakfast, lunch or tea and cakes. The food is great (all the meat is organic too), and the atmosphere is normally quiet and relaxed.

The cream teas here really are very very good. Though I would've eaten a lot more clotted cream! The service seemed a bit snooty - we were a quiet, reasonably dressed party but we got the distinct impression that the waiter felt inclined to look down his nose at us. He was very slow to seat us and forgot the tap water we'd asked for (though I suppose we should have asked for it again until we got it). The cream tea more than made up for this though!

Being a Westcountry girl at heart, I approach any Cream Tea served north of Dorset with great scepticism, however, probably the best I've ever had. An amazing cup of tea too!

The best cream tea in Oxford? After extensive research, I think so! Freshly made scones, delicious clotted cream and jam and large quantities of great leaf tea make this a treat to be savoured. The atmosphere is excellent and although The Rose is small, there is normally a table free. The Cafe is immaculately clean and the staff (including the proprietor) are polite and quick. Perfect after a hard day. The hardened cream tea commando should however take note that ordering an extra pot of clotted cream is often wise, as it quickly runs out! Tricky (Unverified), 22/11/06 |
