We eat regularly at Sturdy's and the Italian waitress is superb, constantly asking if everything is ok, and is fantastic with the children- she is a credit to Sturdy's.

The food isn't out of this world but fills a hole as they say, and reasonably cheap. The dining area could do with a simple lick of paint, but overall a good experience.

Was quite surprised to see ladyjayne's review on 28/01/09. I eat at Sturdy's a couple of times a week. The staff have always been helpful and friendly and I love the menu. Good traditional pub food at reasonable prices. I would recommend Sturdy's to anyone.

Went for my birthday - awful experience. The waitress was the most unfriendly ever encountered, certainly not kid friendly. Came in, no-one seemed to be in the restaurant area, a few customers, no one to greet you, so we went upstairs to the bar area to get drinks and came back down, we seated ourselves. Food mediocre - ordered appetizers, and the waitress was ticked off as we ordered chips for our 7 year old as an appetizer, and ordered the bread, which came as one slice for £1.25 (quite a hefty profit on a loaf if you work it out). The decor awful and run down, could use sprucing up in the dining room area especially. Waited 30 mins for bill as the waitress disappeared, perhaps it would have been nice to have some cake on my birthday, but didn't ask, (less profit for owners). We then left dining room then she showed up and ran after us, I told her not to worry as we were going to talk to the manager.
Manager explained not enough staff, as they are not busy in the week - well that would have been ok, if there weren't two large tables reserved so they knew to expect a few people. Very poorly run to say the least, what a shame, it's only a shadow of what it used to be and what potential the place could have if run by the right management. As for the food, I would scrap it and start again, with fresh menus, and get rid of those old blackboards you can't read anyway. The paper blue napkins and plastic place settings all add to the no class of the place. Would rather sit in a roadside cafe than go back there. Definitely would not recommend to anyone.
