Fresh chutneys, crisp (and quite thin) dosa, delicious sambar - really, this place serves excellent South Indian veggy food. And cheap! I feel it's the only one that serves South India food that presents and tastes like South Indian food. Spread the word, take your friends: it deserves to do well, and move to bigger premises. Pete (Unverified), 26/02/12 I am a South Indian and and so only the best South Indian food would please me. I have become an ardent fan of Dosa Park. The food tastes great, absolutely perfect South Indian! What makes it outstanding is that whether vegetarian or non vegetarian, the taste is equally first class - not usually seen in Indian restaurants. The ambience may not be great but the price is unbeatable. The staff are very friendly and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a perfect south Indian dish! DU (Unverified), 17/01/12 A great authentic South Indian cafe which cleverly caters to a mixed customer base by offering South Indian, a few North Indian dishes and Western fare. You can definitely have a good meal for under a fiver. They have a huge variety of sumptuous offering which are reasonably priced. The fish fry was amazing and the fish was so fresh and excellently prepared. The paneer masala was nice and the vadai was pretty good. The lamb biryani was wonderful and the poppadoms were huge! As for the sweet lassi, it was divine. The egg dosa is a must try as it was absolutely delicious with wonderful chutneys and sambar served as an accompaniment. The service has always been good and quick. Furthermore, when I ordered a veg. thali as a takeaway without rice, the lady who served me kindly offered to substitute it for chapatis which I thought was really nice of her. In all, I would definitely recommend it and it's a must try for any foodie! Anon. (Unverified), 16/12/11 Tried the vegetarian Thali today. I was slightly suspicious as it looked like another fast food place but I was pleasantly surprised. Haven't had this good Indian food since I got to Oxford. Mango lassis are a treat, too. Only place to get Indian in Ox. kay (Unverified), 30/06/11 As others have said, this is the only place in town where you can get South Indian food, and while the dosas might be a tad thicker and the idlis sometimes underdone, its still great to be able to call up and order a dosa on a lazy evening at home. If you eat in, they now serve thalis/dosas in proper reusable steel thalis, rather than the styrofoam disposable bowls/plates they used earier, which makes for much nicer eating. The delivery took a while, but they actually called to say once their driver had left and apologized for the delay, which was really sweet. SN (Unverified), 15/10/10 I second TomD, below. We ordered delivery from these guys on Friday and - whilst it did take ages!! - once it arrived it was INCREDIBLY cheap, absolutely delicious and plentiful too. Masala dosa and vegetable thali for 2 plus the most DELICIOUS mango lassis...amazing. I've not found South Indian food this authentic outside of London before. CHECK IT OUT - I'll never get Indian food from anywhere else in Oxford again!! (probably ;) ) Roo (DI Reviewer), 21/06/10 As other reviewers have stated, this place - formerly Halal Munch - is now called Ruchi's, and serves South Indian food alongside burgers and fried chicken. I think they should ditch the fast-food crap, and just concentrate on the Indian food, as it's superb. This is the only place I'm aware of in Oxford that serves vaguely authentic Indian food. It's excellent value, and you'll find things here that you'll struggle to find outside of London - idly, dosas, sambals, etc. The Thalis are excellent value, the lamb and chicken currys are the tastiest in town, and the vegetarian options are all really good. I hope these guys succeed with the South Indian venture - maybe one day they could turn this place into a proper restaurant. TomD (DI User), 07/06/10 This place is now called Ruchi's takeaway. It was taken over maybe 18 months back by south indians who introduced the south indian menu alongside the traditional kebab van fare, and has recently been taken over again. This is a hidden gem for quick, tasty and affordable indian food. It's a no frills place and they don't pretend every dish is made individually and fresh, but they do serve up good food. Masala dosa for £4.00 is a bargain, idli vada sambar £3.50 is plentiful and you can get good samosa and paratha here as well. The curries and biriyanis are also good, but its the south indian offerings that can't be found elsewhere in town that are the main attractions. AR (Unverified), 19/05/10 This is now called Ruchi South Indian Takeaway and has Dosai, Vadai etc. not available anywhere else in Oxford as far as I am aware. We wish it good fortune as they are friendly and helpful. 06/05/10 Please fill in the boxes and then click "Send Review" to submit your review for Dosa Park. | |
