We have been to this restaurant and think it is superb. The food, decor, friendliness of staff all combine to make this one of the best Indian restaurants. Thank you and well done. Cheryl M (Unverified), 08/05/12 We have been to this restaurant several times over the past few years and have always found it to be absolutely lovely! The staff are always just the right level of attentiveness and offer you a complimentary drink quite often. We have had the takeaway as well - it has always been hot and of a good quality. It was 30 mins late on one occasion - we received a significant discount and were very happy with the outcome. Overall, we have always been very pleased with both the service and the quality of the food - would most definitely recommend this restaurant to all! chad1886 (Unverified), 23/04/12 Majliss has really good Indian food and nice service... & prices are reasonble too. Would highly recommend it. You might want to ask them to make your curry a little less oily, that's what I thought after having mine, but the taste was simply excellent and went perfectly with the super soft naan. Also tried coconut icecream, which was served impressivley and tasted the same. foodie (Unverified), 21/11/10 Majliss serves the best Indian in Oxford. We have been going there and ordering from them for over a year now, and the food is always consistently excellent. The guys that run it are lovely, really friendly and they now remember me and what my delivery criteria are. It's clear they take real pride in what they do, so I say good luck to them! And if you haven't tried it already, give it a go, you won't be disappointed. livicus (DI User), 16/11/10 My boyfriend took me for a meal last night and expected it to be quiet being a Wednesday night far from it! every table was occcupied apart from one - good job we had booked! We did have to wait a while for our mains but well worth the wait, the food was lovely very tasty and well presented, the service was also very good they are very welcoming and really nice people. If you want a decent Indian meal with a good consistent service then you will not be disappointed! Can't wait to go again soon! PW (Unverified), 11/11/10 I have been to this restaurant about 15 times and I really love it. It is the best Indian food that I have tasted and as long as it continues to be excellent I will continue to go there. I reccommend the dosas and chicken dhansak. Jenox1984 (Unverified), 08/06/10 Amazing service, delicious food, lovely atmosphere. My partner and I live just around the corner and are slowly working our way through the menu! It's so hard to choose our favourite dishes but some real standouts are the chana masala, the kormas (in general), and the dosas with sambar. We also love everything we've tried from the specials section (eat-in only). This place is an absolute gem! 14/03/10 The spiciest curry I have tasted, the staff warned me it would be hot and it was, but it was also delicious. Next time I am going down one level just to enjoy even more the good food taste. I recommend this for service and quality. Price was reasonable as well. Very clean and well presented. Merewoodman (Unverified), 04/01/10 I went to Majliss on the opening night too. As a big Aziz fan for years, I really didn't think it could be topped...but it was better! I didn't get any of the teething troubles mentioned by the other reviewer but even if there were issues for him on the opening night, it's certainly an efficient and pleasant operation now. The range of curries in Majliss is more imaginative than Aziz and seems more 'modern' somehow rather than the same old korma etc. It's completely delicious. I've been back several times since and had many takeaways too. That's one area in which it wins hands down - Aziz do takeaways but you have to pick them up yourself. Majliss will deliver to your door free - and their food is even more gorgeous! I've never had any greasy dishes or missing bits to my orders as the other reviewer said, and they usually turn up within about 20mins and you often get some freebie poppadums and salad etc as a surprise. I can't recommend them highly enough. I'd say they're now the no1 for curry in Oxford. Dangerweasel (Unverified), 17/08/09 We love it - we work next door and go all the time!!! Best Indian food around, really fresh food, cheap, great! :) Anneure (DI User), 12/08/09 The food I had on a delivery was excellent, but to have the best of taste you should eat in. The food is absolutely brilliant. JoePlatt (Unverified), 30/06/09 Ordered a delivery on Saturday night after reading the other excellent reviews on this new restaurant. Unfortunately we were terribly disappointed. The food arrived brimming in excess oil, no naan breads, the chicken looked like something out of a lego box....slops at best. Goosey Lucy (Unverified), 27/06/09 I went to the restaurant Friday night, on the door we weren't left hanging around - we were greeted by a couple of young waiters, friendly and even though the restaurant was packed they still managed to fit us in. The two young waiters made us feel welcomed and despite the fact they were doing something they had the time to talk and not make us feel uncomfortable, we waited about twenty minutes and had drinks while we waited to get seated. The food was amazing, different to any other, especially the dish called galda chingri roposhi (a prawn dish). The service was good, they didn't make us wait for long. When they sat me and my two other mates down, it was good because of the fact that the restaurant was packed and they didn't rush us for what we wanted. We also got complimentary drinks, I dunno why, maybe because it was our first time but was good. Majliss is not a place to miss out on, highly recommend it. kev (Unverified), 07/06/09 I Went To Majliss on Saturday night with my boyfriend for the 1st time, we were very impressed with the decor, very modern and inviting. The restaurant was quite busy, not suprising as it was a Saturday night, but despite it being busy, we were served quickly, and didn't have to wait too long for our food. The food was lovely, we both really enjoyed our meals and the whole experience, will definitely be returning very soon! PW (Mon 18th May) (Unverified), 18/05/09 Went here last night with friends (16 of us) and had a great meal. Service was impeccable and the food very good, waiters were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Despite the restaurant being almost full they never seemed to be in a hurry. The bill was very reasonable as well. Definitely a welcome addition to the Cowley Road. churchwarden (Unverified), 12/05/09 Excellent restaurant! Gave me huge discounts.. I would definitely go again if I was to come back to Oxfordshire again... Staff is warm and welcoming, very nice decor and comfy chairs. Very nice thick leather on the chairs... Surrounded by modern lighting which gives it a nice warm welcoming feel. Looking forward to eating there again! Ben Hoyle (Unverified), 08/05/09 I went there last night and the service and food was impeccable. Truly delicious and very good value. Certainly beats all curry houses down the Cowley Road. Keep up the good work Majliss. SyA (Unverified), 25/03/09 I went on the second night it opened - and had a great time. Excellent (and slightly different from the usual) range of vegetarian dishes, good service (yes, they were having teething problems but they had only just opened - and I see that they have already made some changes as a result [table numbers have appeared]), and very reasonably priced. I've also had a takeaway and the menu range is slightly reduced for this - great for meat eaters, slightly disappointing for vegetarians. But you can't have everything. And they are encouraging something that as a local resident I wholeheartedly support - if you bring proof of parking in the nearest public carpark they will reimburse the money. Brilliant. So simple and yet could make a real difference to local residents. kw13 (Unverified), 20/03/09 Excellent, friendly service in clean & modern surroundings. Excellent choice of food on menu which led to some delay in my ordering with the patient waiter. Food was well presented in good portions. Very good, layered flavours in the food. The meal was very much enjoyed by my wife and myself (and the surrounding tables too by the comments I could hear). Service was good and friendly. The bill was also very reasonable too. pps (Unverified), 19/03/09 I'm really surprised the other review was bad! I had a take away from there tonight and it was wonderful. Best lamb curry I've ever had, delicious rice with a lovely flavour of its own, and the staff were charming (and, despite what Tony Brett said, spoke very good English). The owner tells me they previously ran a restaurant in Kidlington, and the setup seems very fluid and professional indeed. The interior of the restaurant is light, modern and looks exceptionally clean. A very good addition to the area. I have a feeling I'll be there a lot. sophie (Unverified), 11/03/09 We went here last night, on the opening night. The restaurant has been fitted out very nicely and is light, airy and attractive. The staff were friendly, polite and welcoming. We were told there would be a table for the two of us in a few minutes. We were offered drinks which we nearly got but then the table was ready so we went and sat down. The drinks followed us about 10 minutes later and were wrong! It took two further attempts to get the right drinks. We ordered popadums and chutneys and they came quite quickly and were fine. There a particularly nice tamarind chutney. We ordered our food, which was a struggle as the waiter was clearly finding it hard to understand what I was saying, and then prepared to wait for it. I was slightly concerned that the restaurant was pretty much full and nobody had any food on their table. But we knew it was the opening night so were prepared to be patient. Our food came over an hour later and I am sorry to say that it was not good. My friend had an Aloo Chat and it looked and tasted like watered-down supermarket value curry. The cucumber appeared to have been cooked with it and so was soggy. I had a Chicken Jeera which was passable but not great. The chicken had clearly just been added to the sauce as there was no sense of marinated taste in it. I also had Keema Rice (rice with minced lamb) which I'm afraid was served almost cold and thus was extremely greasy. I also had a chapatti that was far too thick and had the consistency of rubber. The plate I was given for my food was cold. The bill eventually came and was wrong (£7.90 for the Aloo chat rather than £2.20) but was corrected quickly. The waiter also deducted one round of drinks from it, as an apology for the slow service, this was without being asked. I know it was the first night for this restaurant so I would be prepared to give it a try in a few weeks to see if things have settled down a bit but I'm sorry to say that I think this was an unfortunate case of somewhere opening before it was really ready to do so. I hope things get better there as someone has clearly spent a lot of money making an exceedingly nice venue which is of course in an area where there is a whole lot of competition for good curry and good service!
