Just had Yummys and it was incredible! Defo going back ***** Jdawg (Unverified), 14/12/11 A fantastic little chinese place. A huge and delicious menu and all orders are delivered almost instantly. Also a good takeaway / delivery service. It's our regular. 5* qweqaz (Unverified), 29/06/09 Visited last October. Some of the items on the menu I have not seen elsewhere. Delights such as braised belly pork with sweet sauce and sliced monkfish with wine and garlic sauce (the latter I haven't tried yet, but will do sometime). We were in the area again this weekend and made a point of returning. The balance is refreshingly different but works excellent with the eating area far more like a cafe (as it rightly calls itself) than a restauraunt. The prices I'd say are comparable or maybe a little cheaper than the restuarants around, but the quality and unusual dishes really make this place special. Excellent service. I look forward to returning there when next in the area. I sincerely hope they keep the place as is and not let all the good reviews encourage them to raise prices etc. This is currently something special with real character. Monica (Unverified), 29/03/09 My previous experiences here have always been good. We have been eating here for 4/5 years. However standards are dropping and tonight was the last straw. Starters came with no cutlery or napkins, which eventually arrived. Main course firstly was not served as usual on individual plates, but as 1 bowl of rice and 2 plates of food, with two side plates for eating off. We asked for large plates, which arrived freezing, not just cold, but very cold. The staff seemed surprised to be asked for hot plates, but took them to heat them leaving the food on the table going cold. The salt content of my dish was enormous, and it was virtually inedible, this was explained to the waitress who went to the kitchen, and said the chef was busy and had put too much in, never mind. I didn't eat much of it. When the bill came no adjustment was made for the bad dish. We complained and they eventually knocked £2.50 off a bill of £27. This used to be a gem in the culinary crown of Headington. Seems that they may need to abdicate. Uncled (Unverified), 13/03/09 This place is fantastic. The food is absolutely great, the staff are so friendly and happy to advise you if you need help choosing and equally happy to alter something on the menu if you request it. It is a no frills type of place so don't expect table cloths and wine glasses, but do expect excellence from the food and service. The prices are really good too. songsnsums (Unverified), 01/07/08 I miss Yummy, wish they could deliver takeaway to bloody Plymouth. It is just great to eat there. Nice and small. Cheap as anything. God I am so hungry!! Marcel (Unverified), 15/04/08 I've been there 4 times. The food is pretty good, service is near perfect in terms of time. Very friendly too. Can't really fault it for the price you pay. We went there in a party of 7 last time and ordered loads. Filled the table and only paid little over £6 each! I was shocked. The cheapest meal out I've had in a long while. miserable-paul-w (Unverified), 05/03/08 Yummy's is a great restaurant - I haven't had a bad meal there in 4 years, and 95% of the time the food is outstanding. Try their excellent dim sum followed by roast pork with ginger and spring onion, with a portion of egg fried rice. Wash down with a simple green tea. I'm about to go and collect a takeaway now - but it is equally nice to sit in the characterful cafe with friendly staff. So reliable, such good value: qualities so unusual for an Oxford eatery. TommyF (Unverified), 21/12/07 What a find! I sooo enjoy the food and stuff. It's great value and I hope it never expands. uncled (Unverified), 27/07/07 Great Chinese cafe, the service is great and the special of the day dish is great too.. highly recommended! watermln (Unverified), 02/12/06 I was initially drawn to this café / takeaway by the other comments on this website. However, my experience was very different from the others. Although I was impressed by the short wait and the lower-than-average cost of the food, I was very disappointed with the meal. The crispy duck (my favourite dish of all time) had very little flavour and likewise the egg fried rice was close to bog-standard boiled rice. I will not be going to this place instead. Another good review points to Shanghai House, just across the road. I will try that next. TomT (Unverified), 21/07/06 Absolutely wonderful, by far the best chinese takeaway/cafe ive been to. Just try the special fried rice for proof, where as most places serve bland fried rice with a few frozen peas & prawns, here you get large king prawns, squid, meaty chicken breast, bbq pork, beef etc. Every dish we try always amazes us, i don't think you'd go wrong with anything on the menu. Prices are reasonable and the staff are friendly (one girl even chased me round to the co/op carpark when i left my car stereo). Highly recommended! Jambi (Unverified), 29/06/06 this is probably one of the places i will miss the most when i leave oxford. everything in this restaurant is good. the service is great. it's always packed though, so come early. try everything! and ask their waiter for the specials. my favorite is the roast duck with rice, but their other dishes are equally awesome. prices are reasonable, i think a normal meal would cost less than 10 quid per person. they deliver too! izzy (Unverified), 11/04/06 This is a pity that the cake chef at Yummy no longer works there. I miss his cake so much! His cake is really tasty and delicious; I used to recommend the mango cheese cake. I used to go there at least once a week for a slice. kao (Unverified), 06/04/06 This is a really really great Chinese café. The grilled dumplings are probably the best I've ever had and they've got a great range of imported drinks, which are really tasty (I recommend the white grape juice). Make sure you get there early if you want the Mongolian lamb! All the food's good, they strike the right balance between strength and subtlety of flavour and prices are reasonable. It's definitely worth the bus ride from central Oxford. Harriet (DI User), 26/01/06 Please fill in the boxes and then click "Send Review" to submit your review for Yummy. | |
